Chrysler made an electronic ignition standard in 1973, which used both a mechanical and vacuum advance. These distributors used a variable reluctor type sensor, much like the later GM HEI and Ford Duraspark. Mopar Performance introduced the capacitor discharge conversion kit that included the new electronic distributor, an ECU (electronic control unit), wiring harness, and ballast resistor. This made the switch from a points ignition to the new electronic ignition much easier and less expensive.
